The Gleaners & I

Throughout her life in France, Agnès has often come across gleaners, foragers, rummagers and scavengers. Through necessity, purely by chance or out of choice, these people pick up leftover items discarded by others. Their world is a surprising one. It is a far cry from the old-world gleaners, peasant women who rummaged for bits of wheat left over from the harvest. Today’s gleaner fare includes potatoes, apples, discarded foodstuffs, objects without owners, clocks without hands… Yet, what is Agnès if not a gleaner herself, only in documentary format? Filming is gleaning and, as proven by Agnès, curiosity has no age limit.
