Waste Land

Charmed by the colorful alchemy of garbage, Brazilian artist Vik Muniz abandons his comfortable apartment in Brooklyn to travel to the world’s largest garbage dump on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro, for a unique project. Once there, he meets an eclectic band of catadores, self-designated pickers of recyclable materials, and helps them recreate photographic images of themselves out of garbage, inspiring them to re-imagine their own lives. Audience Award at the Sundance and Berlin Film Festivals and a nomination for Best Documentary at the Academy Awards.
