DECEMBER: In the eye of the hurricane

There’s a new, alternative channel of communication between film and reality in town, called Exile Room. It’s a non-profit initiative by documentary production company Exile Films, which premieres with a screening of the jaw-dropping “Burma VJ: Reporting from a Closed Country”, the most awarded documentary of the season  (Amsterdam International Documentary Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, Thessaloniki Documentary Festival and more) that was recently nominated for Best Documentary Feature.

A rare and exceptional look into the 2007 uprising in Burma where 100,000 people, including thousands of Buddhist monks, peacefully took to the streets to protest the country’s repressive regime that held them hostage for over forty years.
