Woman in Motion

“Woman in Motion” is the story of how the actress who portrayed Star Trek’s legendary Lt. Uhura, a pop culture icon for the early Trekkie generation, became a breaker of barriers and the recruiter of astronauts. In 1977, with just four months left, NASA struggles to recruit scientists, engineers and astronauts for the new Space Shuttle program. NASA makes the bold decision to hire Nichelle Nichols. The actress/singer embarks on a national blitz, recruiting 8,000 of the nation’s best and brightest, including the trailblazing astronauts who became the first women, African Americans, Asians and other minorities to fly in space. Both intimate and epic, “Woman in Motion” is the triumphant life of Nichelle Nichols and how she changed the world and beyond.
